[cma-l] Ofcom awards five new Community Radio licences

Ofcom today announces the award of five new community radio licences to:

* Marlow FM (Marlow, Bucks)

Marlow FM will be a community information and entertainment service
for the population of Marlow, Bucks. Through its association with
community groups and organisations it will provide a link between all
aspects of the community. Marlow FM will be directed and guided by the
community it serves and is committed to provide training and access to
local schools, special interest and community groups. It will be
accountable to its listenership and seek to give the people of Marlow
the chance to volunteer and become involved.


* Radio BGWS (Farnborough, Aldershot, Camberley and Fleet)

Radio BGWS will provide a community radio service on AM for the
rapidly growing community of ex-Gurkhas, their families and other
Nepalese people in Farnborough, Aldershot, Camberley and Fleet. The
service will provide information, advice and entertainment for the
Nepalese, as well as the wider community, aiming to help them to
integrate into local life and to stay in touch with Nepali traditions
and culture.


* Seahaven FM (Newhaven, Seaford and Peacehaven, East Sussex)

Seahaven FM's objectives are to provide a local radio service which
will offer the people living and working in its area local information
and a diversity of music programming. It aims to bring communities
closer together by offering the means to discuss and debate the common
and differing issues that face them. It will take part in events
staged locally and facilitate opportunities for local people from all
sections of the community to become involved in its broadcasts.


* The Park (Brockenhurst, Hampshire)

The Park is part of a not-for-profit organisation that aims to provide
a comprehensive community media service, both on-line and on air, to
the New Forest. The radio station will bring the communities of the
New Forest together through direct involvement in producing their own
programmes, representing their own communities and talking to others,
enabling them to have their say on issues that affect everyone in the
District.


* Voice FM (Southampton)

Voice FM will enable students and those wishing to learn new skills in
the Southampton city region to make programmes that will raise
aspirations, showcase talent, celebrate success, encourage life-long
learning and improve knowledge and understanding of how to enjoy a
successful, healthy and happy life.


Licences are awarded for a five-year period.

A statement setting out the main determining factors for the award of
the five community radio licences referred to above will be published
in Ofcom's September monthly radio broadcast update.
