Dear all

With reference to various news items and concerns about dealing with
volunteers, we suggest the following:

Start with a generic Volunteering Policy covering all aspects of the
relationship, what they can expect from you (e.g. travel reimbursed etc
- NB need receipts, not a general allowance!) and what you expect from
them (e.g. timekeeping, adherence to station policies and procedures
etc) - try

http://www.volunteering.org.uk/resources/goodpracticebank/Core+Themes/volunteerpolicies/index.htm

Then for presenters/programme makers/DJs etc add additional bits on e.g.
the station's editorial policy, Broadcasting Code, broadcasting during
elections etc.

Have a signed contract (not for monetary consideration) so the volunteer
knows what they have committed to.

Hope that helps, if anyone does have an all-singing version they would
like to share we would be happy to disseminate.

Best wishes

Jaqui
