The Big Lottery has agreed to fund Somerset Film to provide 400 families in
five locations across Somerset with the opportunity to participate and learn
with film and digital media. A total of £319,194 has been made available
over the next three years.
Somerset Film will employ a co-ordinator for this project for the fixed
three year period. Details of the post - and a film about the project - at
www.somersetfilm.com
Family Connections draws on Somerset Film¹s twelve years experience of
delivering community media activities in the county and takes a fun,
creative and collaborative approach to families learning together.
Whether it¹s learning the basics of using a computer, or finding out how to
surf, skype and blog, making short films and building websites, learning to
get more out of the mobile phone, taking better photos of family and
friends, having a go at ŒWallace and Grommit¹ style animation, Family
Connections is a chance to get hands on with some powerful software and
equipment with skilled tutors on hand to help get the best out of the
experience. As well as the fun and satisfaction to be had from the creative
activities on hand, Family Connections will offer opportunities to learn new
skills, to better support children in the safe use of the internet, to put
individuals and families in a stronger place to take advantage of further
learning and work opportunities in the future.
Activities will take place when families can get there after schools,
evenings and weekends and at convenient locations. Nearly three hundred
hours of tutor support time will be available in each of the five locations
with additional facilities throughout at Somerset Film¹s Engine Room media
centre in Bridgwater. People taking part will be able to access a dedicated
website for all the projects to be showcased and shared.
