I wholeheartedly agree with you Roger.
Just to let you know that starting today 8th January, BCB is starting a
regular programme called 'Dateline Palestine' that is broadcast at Ipm and
repeated at 6pm on Thursdays. It's presented by karl Dallas who has recently
spent time in Ramalla. You can listen on line at www.bcbradio.co.uk

Subject: [cma-l] A role for community media?
Just to add to the discussions about a defining role and collaboration for
community stations.
In a programme this Monday on Forest of Dean Radio, a live interview from
Jerusalem with an Oxfam humanitarian spokesman and someone local, who had
attended the demonstration in London last Saturday, explored the gaps
between what has been reported or omitted by BBC and national media and
other views of the Middle East Issue reality.
Only today, Wednesday for the first time, after a loss of over 500 lives,
has any UK Politician (Nick Clegg) spoken out against the Israeli State, the
lack of access to media for others to comment and debate is here as much as
it is in other places.
We don't need to take sides but we can offer airtime to inform.
Do we not have a responsibility to make issues relevant and and accessible
to our audiences and build up our differing approachs to enable better and
more honest awareness?
Even by asking these questions, engaging within our communities, do we not
broaden more understanding of how democracy so often fails us.
