[cma-l] Ofcom Update: Radio in Digital Britain - submission to Government

Ofcom has published its submission to the Government’s Digital Britain
project which has outlined specific proposals and legislative changes
required to secure the future of *commercial* radio.

Given the significant financial pressures, resulting in part from
structural and cyclical changes in advertising and, in part, from the
costs of digital transmission we recommend a series of steps to secure
the future of commercial radio.

The recommendations to Government include:

·         facilitating the creation of new, UK-wide services;

·         ensuring the continuation of locally-produced content which
listeners continue to value;

·         encouraging the continued growth of the DAB platform; and

·         proposals to overcome some of the obstacles that might
hinder any future digital migration;
