Deadline Looming For Social Awards Scheme

Time is almost up to enter a competition that aims to recognise the
individuals, charities and voluntary groups that have done the most to
bring about social change in their communities.

The closing date for entering the second annual DSC Social Change
Awards is 17 October.

Run by voluntary sector support and training charity the Directory of
Social Change, the awards aim to highlight the vital – and often
unsung – work going on to improve local communities.

Awards are up for grabs in the following four categories:

- Everyday Impact Award – for the person who has a clear vision for
social change and helps bring about real results on a daily basis.
- Influencer Award – for the individual or group that really knows how
to make things happen. DSC is keen to recognise the determination and
hard work required to communicate clearly, put forth a persuasive
argument and win people over to bring about positive change.
- Investing in Social Change Award – for the individual, company or
not-for-profit organisation that has made the most of investing time,
money, and skills to make a positive social impact.
- Public Body Award – for the public sector organisation that has
proven most effective in working alongside their local community to
bring about social change. This category is open to local authorities,
parish councils, government departments, and community facilities such
as local leisure centres.

Organisers are particularly keen for late entries to the Public Body
Award category.

Interested groups can enter the awards online by completing a simple
application form by the 17 October closing date. A DSC judging panel
will then select a shortlist of three entrants from each category,
with the overall winners decided by an online public vote.

The winning entrants will be revealed at Social Change Conference
2008, which will be held at the Charity Centre in London on 8
December.
