Hi

Communities and Local Government is seeking bids from individual
organisations and consortia which have community engagement and media
literacy training experience to co-ordinate their upcoming 'Digital
Mentor' scheme (http://tinyurl.com/5wdcye).

They say:

"Mentors will increase the skills of citizens in deprived communities
in using websites, podcasts, digital photography, online
publishing tools and local broadcast media. Through doing this DCLG aims to:

- empower individuals and communities by giving those citizens who
feel 'voiceless' or 'unheard' new tools to express their views and
collaborate on issues of relevance to them
- provide informal and formal learning opportunities and assist people
into employment, particularly in the creative industries
- improve access to public and other services

The successful bidder will be in a co-ordination role, helping shape
and lay the foundations for a sustainable and scalable national
initiative. The co-ordinator will identify and support a variety of
demonstrator projects which can most benefit from access to 'Digital
Mentors'. "

The Community Media Association intends to bid and will attend the
briefing workshop in London tomorrow (Wed 19 Nov) - so we need to hear
(today!) from any members who can offer useful relevant
experience/ideas to bring to the table. Good anecdotes are always
useful as are any wider thoughts.

Best regards

Bill
