Subject: [cma-l] Grassroots Grants programme - £130 million

The Grassroots Grants programme aims to increase grant funding
available to community groups that is tailored to local needs. The
programme offers grant funding to third sector organisations to become
'Local Funders' and manage a small grants programme and a community
owned endowment for voluntary and community groups in their area. The
grants are administered by the Community Development Foundation (CDF)
on behalf of the Office of the Third Sector (OTS) at the Cabinet
Office.

Total Fund Value: £ 130,000,000

The total fund value includes £50m for community owned endownment and
£80m for the small grants programme. Grant funding is available to
Local Funders for the 149 top tier local authorities in England. The
amount of capital endowment made available will be allocated at
top-tier local authority level on a per capita basis.

Funding will be available for Local Funders to distribute to voluntary
and community organisations over three years from summer 2008 to March
2011.
Extended Description:

Grassroots Grants is a key element of the government's strategy for
building stronger and more active communities. Grassroots Grants aims
to invest in a thriving community sector by increasing the small grant
funding available to community groups and making it more sustainable,
and strengthening the independent grant-making capacity at top-tier
local authority level. This will be achieved through the two elements
of the Grassroots Grants programme:

- small grants programme to deliver small grants and provide some
capacity building support to local groups in line with the needs of
the local communities; and
- capital grants endowment match challenge fund to deliver sustainable
funding for local community organisations

All completed applications must be sent to grassroots at cdf.org.uk
before 5pm on 30 April 2008
