It's not difficult, assuming you're familiar with the hot end of a
soldering iron :-)

If you're using a "proper" radio sound desk, then it will already have
switches built in to the mic faders. The outputs from these can be
used to connect to interface boxes such as the Canford one. These
boxes contain little more than a simple relay or optoisolated
switcher.

Some "DJ" mixers also have similar switches, for remote-start of CDs. It's
often possible to fit one of these faders to a standard mixer.

With many mixers, there will be enough space between the bottom of
the fader and the case to squeeze in a "Normally Closed" sub-miniature
microswitch - the type with the wire actuator. Stick the switch in
place with epoxy, with the actuator wire between the panel and the
fader body. arrange for the switch to be opened when the fader is
down.

A similar trick involves mounting a reed relay at the bottom of the
fader travel, and putting a small magnet inside the fader cap.

Of course, all but the first of these options involves guddling around inside
the mixer, and will invalidate any warranty.

Bruce.
