[cma-l] iPlayer part of the CM/BBC relationship?

Widely reported:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7777679.stm

"Mr Thompson said the BBC should "share the benefits of its scale and
security with the rest of the industry".*

He added: "Through partnerships I believe broadcasters can help secure
the future of public service broadcasting in this country.""

He's not wrong...* guess it depends on your definitions of 'the
industry' though.

Has there been any discussion of say, having a Comm Radio section on the
iPlayer which picks up CR streams? ...as the RadioCentre has shown, it's
not hard at all....

Or Virgin Media perhaps (BBC already have iPlayer all over
that...)...would only take provision of URLs, metadata, pics and the
pledge to inform of changes by the CR station and some data entry,
periodic housekeeping by the iplayer tech team. Plus the possible legal
mire, granted....but 209 got onto Nokia with ease...

Post 2012- another step up in mobile data bandwidth and 'net radio as
standard in your motor/on your future MW/FM/DAB/DRM radio set and
turning off FM suddenly seems a bit less of a problem.

Also, this whole thing also has the faint whiff of a future where Public
Service Broadcasters are less well-defined/important as would be Public
Service Broadcasting and who can best tender/deliver different kinds of
this...perhaps. Certainly agrees with a recent workshop I attended in
Huntingdon, given by Ofcom...and would certainly be good for us/solve
the nonsense of the size of the CRF I think.

(Assumptions on last point: Auntie lets go of the licence fee/Community
Media recognised as a form of PSB by HM Gov/Miss Piggy cashes in her air
miles.)
